Descenso a Nado Ría de Navia is one of the world's top 100 open water swimming events. It is annually held in August and is in its 54th edition in 2011. It includes a 5K men's race, a 3K women's race, a 1.7K masters racs and a 1.1K junior race with cash prizes for the men's 5K and the women's 3K races of 1000€ for the winner, 700€ for second and 400€ for third.
The Descenso a Nado Ría de Naviais broadcast on live television on Spain's TPA. The race can be seen throughout the world online. For those at the venue, the typically close finishes and mass participants can be featured on a giant screen at the finish area.
