Michael Beanan is an ocean swimmer, artist, educator and a marine activist in Laguna Beach, California. He is the Vice President of the South Laguna Civic Association who won Orange County's 2012 Cox Conserves Hero. The program honors volunteers who are creating, preserving or enhancing outdoor spaces.
Beanan was nominated for leading a movement to prevent urban runoff from Aliso Creek, California from entering the ocean. The goal of his project is to clean the urban runoff, combine it with recycled water, decrease reliance on potable water and ultimately reduce ocean pollution.
