Maurice Lakeman was the Founder and President of the Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club in 1974 in Jersey. He was a Physical Education teacher on Jersey who also served as an open water swimming coach, coaching four-time English Channel swimmer Sally Minty-Gravett and Denize Le Pennec, the first English Channel swimmer from Jersey in 1966.
