Marcelo Collet of Sao Paulo, Brazil a Paralympic athlete was nominated for the 2010 World Open Water Swimming Performance of the Year by the World Open Water Swimming Association for his successful crossing of the English Channel in 10 hours 6 minutes. He was hit by a car while training on his bicycle for triathlons. With the loss of his left leg, he focused on swimming. A film by Philip Bahia documented his preparation and success in the English Channel.
