Lake Anna is one of the largest freshwater inland lakes in the state of Virginia, covering an area of 13,000 acres (53 km²), and located 72 miles (116 km) south of Washington, D.C. in Louisa and Spotsylvania counties. The lake is easily accessible from Richmond and Charlottesville, and is one of the most popular recreational lakes in the state.
Lake Anna is also site of the annual Ben Hair Memorial Open Water Meet, a memorial swim in Mineral, Virginia. It includes the 5 km race, a 1 km team time trial event (TTT or Team Pursuit), and a cumulative stage race. The cumulative stage race ranks the swimmers based on their total time for the individual open water swim and their teams time.
