The Hong Kong Cross-Harbour Swim was first started in 1906 under British colonial rule and was one of the highlights of the Hong Kong open water swimming community from 1912 to 1978. The race was halted due to heavy pollution in the waterways, but was revived in 2011 as the New World Harbour Race.
