Elaine Gray is considered to be one of the greatest British long distance swimmers of the 1960’s and early 1970’s. Between 1962 and 1965, she won 15 consecutive British Long Distance Swimming Association and five Amateur Swimming Association Championships 8 km (5-mile) swims, the 1966 Lake Windermere International and the International Schelde Championship. She was inducted in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame as an Honour Swimmer in 1971.
