noun - A drop taper is an abbreviated taper lasting only 2-3 days in most cases. This period allows for a dramatic reduction in the distance, time and effort swum by swimmers or triathletes in preparation for a competition or solo swim. The drop taper is different from a standard taper in that the rest period is short and dramatic whereas the standard taper is gradual and much longer (1 - 4 weeks period prior to the race or swim). The drop taper allows for additional rest and mental preparation.
The coach told the team that they would begin their drop taper on Thursday for Sunday's competition.
