Dave Thomas was the 1999 recipient of the Glen S. Hummer Award that is given annually by USA Swimming to the individual who makes the greatest contribution to open water swimming. He is a USA Swimming Sport Development Consultant who travels around the Southern Zone of the United States providing professional advice to USA Swimming teams, coaches and athletes. He has been on a number of international competitions as a staff member and organized the annual USA Swimming open water swimming development camps.Thomas has more than 25 years of on-deck coaching experience, including NCAA Division 1, NCAA Division III, YMCA, AAU, USS, USA, high school and summer league swimming. His swimming career has taken him to over 48 countries and 6 continents. He has also worked in Paralympic sport as coach, official, rules chair, technical committee, classifier and attended games in 1992, 1996, 200, 2004 and 2008.
