Daniel Eulogio Carpio Massioti
From Openwaterpedianickname is Carpayo, (11 March 1910 - 19 September 2009) from Cusco, Peru was inducted in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame as an Honour Swimmer in 2005. He participated in the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, 1936 Berlin Olympics and 1948 London Olympics. He was the first South American to cross the English Channel in 1947 and also crossed in 1951 in the Daily Mail Race in 13 hours 50 minutes. He crossed the River Plate in 1945, 1977 and 1982 when he was 72 years old. He held national titles in Chile and Argentina. The National Swimming Pool in Lima, Peru is named after him. He crossed the Strait of Gibraltar in 1948, 1977 and 1987 (when he was 77 years old in 7 hours 34 minutes). In 1948 he crossed the Strait of Gibraltar on 22 July in 9 hours 20 minutes at the age of 37.
He was the Peruvian Champion in the 100, 200 and 400 meter backstroke at 12, 13 and 14 years old. He also won the Venezuela's International Games in 1925. In 1947, he was awarded the Order of the Sun as a Great Master by the President of Peru and the Recognition Award by the Peruvian Institute of Sports.
