Dancing Ledge, Langton Matravers, Swanage
Dancing Ledge at Langton Matravers, Swanage, is a small tidal pool that was blasted into the rock for use of local prep schools about a hundred years ago. It looks more like a rock pool than a swimming pool, with florets of purple and green seaweed and the occasional crab scuttling along it's bottom.
It's about a 30 minute walk from the car park Langton Matravers to Dancing Ledge and a tricky, steep scramble (and jump) down to the pool. 'It's a tight squeeze for two people doing breaststroke but a great place for ten to sit and cool down on a hot day', says Jo Eede.
