Coney Island Polar Bear Club

Coney Island Polar Bear Club is the oldest winter bathing organization in the United States. It was founded by Bernarr Macfadden in 1903 and its members swim in the Atlantic Ocean at Coney Island, New York every Sunday from November through April. The Coney Island Polar Bear Club contributes to worthy organizations within the Coney Island community through the generosity of its sponsors and various endorsements.


[edit] Camp Sunshine

Camp Sunshine provides respite, support, joy and hope to children with life-threatening illnesses and their immediate families through various stages of a child’s illness. The year-round program is free of charge to all families, and includes 24-hour onsite medical and psychosocial support. Bereavement groups are also offered for families who have lost a child to an illness. The club has raised over US$75,000 to support Camp Sunshine to date.

[edit] Special Olympics

In 2005, over US$10,000 was raised by the Club to support Special Olympics New York.
