Carl Gustaf Grahl was the first professional swimming instructor in Sweden who followed Gabriel Marklin and Jöns Svanberg as leaders of the Upsala Simsällskap, the world's first and oldest swimming club.

Upsala Simsällskap

Upsala Simsällskap, or Uppsala Swimming Society in English, was founded in 1796 to provide elementary swimming instruction. It began offering competitive swimming in 1910 and remains a successful swimming club in Sweden today. The coaches were awarded a master's degree (magister) and their pupils a bachelor's degree (kandidat) in swimming.
