From Openwaterpediafloat or turn buoy in the open water, anchored to mark the course for swimmers. The term is used in Australia, whereas the term turn buoy is used in the United States. Cans are directional in nature and must be passed on a specific side of the body as the race instructions dictate.
There are four cans throughout the race course that the swimmers must go around to finish.
