noun - An adult-onset swimmer is an individual who learns how to swim as an adult for fitness, health or competition. Adult onset swimmers can be self-taught or learn how to swim in order to participate in triathlons, open water swimming competitions, or simply swimming fitness opportunities in their local pools.

Many triathletes are adult onset swimmers.
